Water Tiger

The Lunar New Year kicked off February 1st 2022, and WOW has it been a doozy thus far….

How are we doing with that Big Cat Energy out there? Some insight into what to expect this year, be discerning, loyal and fierce, as tigers do not waver. This energy keeps a watchful eye on what it wants, knowing the exact moment to strike. Precise with their execution even when attempts are missed hunting their prey, tigers align their sight for their next pursuit. In this way, the tiger often hunts alone to remain silent, focused and clear in their intent.

Tiger stripes are as unique as our fingerprints; bold in their presence of being, it is essential to be yourself and let your stripes shine. Their vocal cords have square folds which give them a dynamic range (most animals and humans being triangular). They instinctively use the low frequency of their powerful roar to paralyze their prey, so as needed make your voice heard.

If your internal hard working year with the Yin Metal Ox of 2021 gifted introspective breadcrumbs, follow those insights. Now is the time to act, bringing to life and making those dreams, visions and plans manifest. Be honest with yourself around what is in alignment now versus what was aligned for you in the past. You have grown and therefore outgrown old ways of being and potentially the belief systems or relationships in your life, or at least how you show up in them.

The polarity of the year is Yang.

It has the dynamic, bright, masculine and engaging aspects of life. Remember, the tiger does not waste energy on trivial pursuits, be clear with what you want, desire and intend before acting upon them.

Let this Water year flow! A drop of water is not enough, as we need plentiful amounts to sustain life! Too much water floods, pipes break and monsoons can destroy habitats. Notice what amount sustains you, nourishes you and cleanses you in order to feel vital. Water in its different forms allows us to enjoy its presence whether it be skiing and surfing upon its surface, swimming, or watching the snow fall. When we relate to water in a healthy way we can navigate the waves coming, as no current stays steady always depending on the season. Yang water can be particularly powerful; it is not always devastating. It could seem deep and emotional, so let those tears fall, don't be afraid to lean into the depths and swim around for a while. Fun fact, tigers are aquatic animals and can actually swim for 5 miles across vast areas with their webbed paws and powerful bodies.

Simona Mainini, a doctor of Architecture and Feng Shui Master, gave a lecture on the Year of the Water Tiger I attended. The hexagram of the year depicts that of a summer storm; clouds (kan) over thunder (zhen). Before you feel discouraged because you are tired from the last few years, close your eyes and imagine the gray clouds; pregnant with rain and possibility. The thunder is rumbling and the air feels warm and heavy. When this abundance rains from the sky, our lands will become more fertile, the animals and plants will be happy, and our earth will be quenched. It does not do well for us to fear the storms; try transforming fear and avoidance into readying yourself. The first part of the year is a time of preparation. We are gathering our wits, tending to what’s needed, and turning the compost before we seed the soil. Plot in your mind’s eye what you want to plant. Vision what this year has in store for you so come summer and fall it bears fruit for what you desire.

Resource yourself according to your needs.

What is your life vest? Therapy, biofeedback, neurosculpting, acupuncture, qi gong or yoga practice, connection to friends and family and a sustainable nourishing diet for your body could be the adjustments you are seeking. Having a support network is key, make sure you are connecting to your allies, higher spirit, ritual and cleansing practices. Maintain your sense of willpower and remember your mind is powerful therefore feed it with nourishing thoughts, steering away from the negative, self defeating, worrying mind. Focus on your center, your midpoint, your anchor so that you can move forth steadily into the world.
